Good Burning Practices and Ecodesign

Poor burning practices can increase the amount of particulate pollution emitted from domestic solid fuel stoves, and make them more expensive and difficult to maintain. The Burn Right website (www.burnright.co.uk – developed by chimney sweeps) has useful information for customers on how to burn efficiently and save money.

From January 2022 only EcoDesign stoves can be legally sold in the UK. Further information about the regulations can be found here:

Domestic stoves used to burn non-approved fuels (e.g. wood) in a Smoke Control Area will still have to be Defra Exempt as well as meet the EcoDesign regulations. Smoke Control Areas cover most urban and densely populated areas and have been declared by all Greater Manchester local authorities.
